PHARR SAN JUAN ALAMO — Twenty eight schools in the PSJA school district are being recognized for their efforts in energy conservation.
Recycling club students and staff, from Dr. Long Elementary, were presented with one of the awards on Tuesday morning. The Energy Star Award is only given to schools that operate in the top 25% of energy efficient buildings in the country. Energy Education Representative Gary Clark stated, "The school district has had an outstanding success here, they have saved $500,000 dollars, which is about a 22% reduction in their energy cost. Those are dollars that can be used on other needs, other than paying utility bills."
Energy Education representatives say PSJA leads the Valley in energy conservation efforts and that other school districts should look to them, as a role model.
