HIDALGO COUNTY - Right now the county has chosen to challenge the census through administrative appeal hearing. The census said the county had about 770 Thousand people. But the county thinks they missed about 100 thousand people in the colonias. So to make their case, they must get a current, more accurate count, themselves.
Judge Garcia says for every 10 thousand people not counted three million dollars is taken away from funding. So by the county's calculations. Hidalgo would miss out on nearly 30 million dollars in funding if the census numbers aren't corrected.
