LA JOYA - Teach for America is choosing from the best of the best when it comes to future teachers.
They received the largest number of applications to date, with more than 48,000 vying for a job. Many of the Teach for America teachers end up here in the Valley.
Josue Galvan is a first-year with Teach for America and he teaches seventh grade at Zavala Middle in La Joya. He said he has really benefitted from the Teach for America teacher support system.
"The professional development is unlike anything I have ever experienced before. I went through a lot of thinks like classes and things on leadership when I was in college. I was really involved in college in terms of leadership. But it is nothing like what I have gotten here."
Of those applicants, Teach for America is proud to announce many of them are from ivy league institutions and several of those applicants are also first generation college graduates.
