LA FERIA — A new low income housing project in the City of La Feria is in the works as commissioners have approved an application for a proposed subdivision of seventy new single family homes.
A non-profit organization named, The South Texas Collaborative for Housing, will apply to the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs for funding. The location will be north of expressway 83 on FM 2559 between Mile 8 and West Clark road. Residents will be paying a reduced rent and it will have an impact on nearby businesses creating jobs during the construction phase. La Feria City Manager Sunny Philip said, "It will be a good boost for the economy and also we have a shortage of housing in our community and this is going to act on some of their needs."
