The spiraling incidence of type 2 diabetes affects millions of people worldwide and puts a heavy burden on health care systems as well.
New research on a hormone produced by fat cells offers a potential weapon in the fight against the disease. Obesity is blamed for fueling the increase of type 2 diabetes to epidemic proportions in the U.S. and many other countries. Unfortunately, the problem only looks to get worse and while excess fat is known to be associated with the illness, research featured in the Journal of the American Medical Association confirms it. Higher levels of Adi-ponecin may be associated with a lower risk of type 2 diabetes and its an important discovery that could benefit anyone.
