If you see several 18 wheelers pulled over to the side of the road, there's a reason, its all part of a campaign by the Department of Public Safety called Road Check 2009.
It started on Tuesday and troopers will be conducting intensive inspections and looking into safety equipment. They will be checking driver's log books to make sure they are getting enough sleep, current insurance documents and driver's licenses. Inspectors will also look for possible drug or alcohol use and hoping to cut down on deadly commercial vehicle crashes.
According to DPS, during Road Check 2009, inspectors examine more than 5,800 trucks in Texas. From those inspections troopers removed nearly 1,500 trucks and more than 175 drivers from service because of violations. The inspections will continue through Thursday of this week.
