Every five years the American Cancer Society updates it's nutrition and physical activity guidelines and that information was released on Wednesday.
Some of the key points included in the report was maintaining a healthy weight, adopting a physical lifestyle, and consuming a healthy diet with an emphasis on plant food and limiting alcohol consumption. American Cancer Society Community Manager Tina Longoria stated, "We do find a correlation between obesity and cancer. Obviously obesity increases the risk of cancer, but not just cancer alone but other chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease and so if we can help our community by education them on how to prevent some of these diseases, especially cancer, we want to do that."
The American Cancer Society estimates that 14% of cancer deaths in men and 20% in women are related to being overweight.
