We have new details tonight on a three car pile-up in Los Fresnos, which hurt more than five people this afternoon.
DPS Trooper, Johnny Hernandez says, a driver fell asleep at the wheel, and that's what caused this major crash.
At least five people are injured and they were all rushed to the hospital.
Hernandez says, Emergency medical crews even came in with a helicopter to rush a 9-year old girl to the hospital.
She's currently in the intensive care unit with spinal injuries at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.
The three car pile-up happened on Highway 100.
Troopers say, here's how it all happend.
A Ford Expedition was heading westbound, as a stationary van was trying to make a right hand turn.
The van never made that turn, because a Chevy Malibu crashed into the van, which ended up crashing into the Expedition.
The driver of the Malibu, was the one who fell asleep.
Authorities say, the male driver is in his 30's and there were five people in his car.
All of them were rushed to the hospital to get medical care.
Many of them have broken bones.
Traffic even needed to be re-directed east and westbound.
Drivers were being asked to avoid the area if possible.
DPS says, the driver who caused the crash was not intoxicated, he just fell asleep.
The crash is still under investigation.
