LA JOYA- Brenda Leal and her family are one of many receiving a new lease on life. In less than a week they will receive a brand new home. Leal says she's really happy ,especially for her kids. Her family of 7 currently shares a small trailer. That soon will change thanks to a group of college students who have traveled far to help families in the upper valley.
The students attend Central College in Iowa. Their mission is to come down to the border and change lives no matter how hard it gets. The families were selected by the the parental involvement department at La Joya ISD in hopes of improving the quality of life for many families in the area.
A total of 7 projects will be completed within a week's time giving several needy families a roof over their heads, a bath tub and a stove. Things some of them never had before.
These projects have been a long time coming and without working as a team it could have never been possible.
In just a few days the students will pack up and head back to Iowa.
