McALLEN - The McAllen International Airport will have a new color departing from it's runaway, brown.
UPS is set to begin utilizing the airport for deliveries as it moves it's operations from Valley International Airport in Harlingen to McAllen. McAllen's Airport Assistant Director of Aviation Matthew Van Valkenburgh says, "The most exciting part about that is actually having UPS here with us in the Valley and having them here in McAllen it's gonna help the maquiladoras. It will shorten their time to get their product to the airplane, which means they'll have a longer production time, but also its bringing up to 30 jobs here to McAllen, so we think that's very key to the economic growth of the Valley as well."
A UPS plane will be arriving five times a week picking up Valley packages and flying them to Louisville, KY.
