If you're in need of makeup it could only cost you a trip to the mall, but you might want to pack some patience because the wait is up to two hours.
The reason for freebies is a national class action lawsuit settlement. A 2003 lawsuit filed against department stores and cosmetics manufacturers alleged the businesses conspired to keep prestige cosmetic prices high. The case was settled with no wrong doing admitted and the result is a $175 million dollar giveaway. The giveaway consist of consumers getting one free piece of makeup or fragrance worth $18 to $25 dollars on a honor system.
Anyone is eligible for one freebie from a list of Texas department stores, those include all local Macy's and Dillard retailers. A cosmetic's counter representative from Dillard's at Sunrise Mall in Brownsville says that to get the free product you just need to show a valid drivers license.
The freebies will stop in seven days or when they are all gone, whichever comes first.
