Secret Santas continue to pay off layaways across the country.
The charitable Secret Santa trend is spreading as more people pay off strangers’ layaway accounts.
Shoppers began paying-it-forward after what is believed to be the first "Layaway Santa" picked up the tab on several accounts at a Michigan Kmart two weeks ago.
Since then reports of more layaway payoffs have popped up around the country.
As the trend spreads, so are the amounts being offered.
Someone walked into a Prince Frederick, Maryland Kmart Sunday and cleared $20,000 in layaway items.
