The Donna school district could slash more than a hundred staff members.
District officials will hold a special meeting on July 21st at 5pm to decide how many people will get pink slips. Donna I.S.D. officials say the cutback will be for non-teaching departments, such as security and custodial positions. A Region One report on staff to student ratios showed Donna I.S.D. is over staffed by as many as 500 employees.
A hiring freeze is in effect and the district plans to eliminate as many as 100 positions, but that figure is still up in the air and it could be more.
