South Padre Island is gearing up for a busy Memorial Day weekend.
Tourist and locals are already heading to the beach for fun in the sun, but the big holiday weekend is days away. The island's Convention and Visitors Bureau is expecting a large number of people to visit the island and say hotels should be at 80% capacity.
Numbers are expected to be lower than years past because of the struggling economy and also because some island hotels are still closed with Hurricane Dolly damage.
