EDINBURG - TxDOT's Save A Life campaign has made it's way to the University of Texas Pan American campus on Monday.
The Save A Life truck was on campus to educate students about drinking and driving, especially during football games. The initiative was created because recent statistics show 83% of Texans drink heavily during games and during the season there has been a 13% increase in alcohol related arrests. TxDOT Traffic Safety representative Ruby Martinez says, "A lot of people drinking and driving while they are out watching sports. Endangering their lives and the lives of others, our message is very clear. If you're going to be drinking and driving we want you to chose a designated driver in order to save your life and the lives of other people."
More than 16,000 people nationwide were killed in alcohol related crashes last year and nearly 2,000 of them happened here in Texas.
