EDINBURG - Local Edinburg and Valley leaders gathered on Thursday to discuss economic growth and regional planning .
The workshop focused on environmental issues centered around economic development and the necessary precautions that city leaders can take to better prepare their communities for potential environmental setbacks. Speakers for the workshop included Edinburg Mayor Richard Garcia, Congressman Ruben Hinojosa and Regional Urban Forester Salvador Alemany. Mr. Alemany stated, "It is important because we are trying to educate community leaders about the things they are going to see when their cities grow. In terms of handling emergency responses such as fire and hurricanes. The impact urban forestry has in the growing cities, in terms of social and economic aspects."
The workshop was hosted by Texas Emerging Communities in an effort to proactively manage rapid growth in the Valley.
