Woman arrested after entering school and striking 12-year-old daughter's alleged tormentor.
A Maitland, Florida mother is facing multiple charges after officials said she entered an Orange County school Wednesday and struck a 12-year-old girl she claimed was bullying her daughter on Facebook.
Investigators with the Orange County Sheriff's Office said Leslie Thomas, 30, bypassed the front office at Lockhart Middle School and went to the lunchroom.
Authorities said Thomas hit the girl whom she accused of being a bully and encouraged her daughter to do the same thing.
School officials said they allow parents to walk into the school, but they must check in at the main office. Deputies said Thomas blew right past that requirement.
Investigators said Thomas took advantage of the district's open-door policy.
"The situation was defused quite quickly," said Orange County Public Schools spokeswoman Kathy Marsh.
Thomas and her daughter were arrested at the school Tuesday.
Thomas faces charges ranging from child abuse to trespassing on school property.
According to the Florida Department of Children and Families, Thomas' children have been placed in the care of a relative.
