Florida 10-year-old breaks into impound lot, steals truck, crashes into power pole.
Florida police say a 10-year-old boy stole a truck, crashed it into an electricity pole and caused a power outage Wednesday in Eatonville.
Officers said the boy climbed the fence to the city of Eatonville's Maintenance Yard, stole a truck and ran through the fence.
A woman who saw him driving down a road called the police.
Several squad cars gave chase, but police said the boy kept going until he hit a power pole and crashed into David Brock's front yard.
"I heard the sirens coming down the street. I looked out my window, and to my surprise, I saw a truck coming across the front of my yard," Brock said.
According to EPD, the crash started a transformer fire and knocked out power to several residents.
"The truck hits the beam, the power goes out, and all of a sudden, I see a 10-year-old kid running out. The cops chased him, and he came across my yard. I think they caught him right around the corner," Brock said.
Officers said the boy's mother showed up at the scene and spoke with him through the squad car window.
She told police she thought her child was at home.
Police said the boy told them his grandmother in Georgia taught him how to drive.
The boy was charged with burglary, criminal mischief and grand theft, EPD said.
