BROWNSVILLE - The City of Brownsville took another step in becoming more environmentally friendly as H.E.B. awarded a $2,000 dollar grant to Keep Brownsville Beautiful through the Green Bag Grants program.
An H.E.B. spokesperson says Brownsville received the grant after receiving statewide recognition for the city's recycling initiatives. The Green Bag Grants program was established in 2006 to encourage communities throughout Texas to recycle.
H.E.B. Unit Director Jaime Cavasos says, "This particular grant is going to be used by Keep Brownsville Beautiful to focus on recycling. A lot of people have a problem with recycling convenience, so they are going to set up drop off points at schools where when you drop off your child you can also drop off your recyclables."
According to Cavasos, the project focuses on making an impact in three areas; reducing waste, reusing materials and promoting recycling.
