EDINBURG - Priorities at the University of Texas Pan American are shifting and UTPA President Dr. Robert Nelsen says the university is going to become more involved in the community.
It's all part of a new strategic plan called Engaged University and it will put more responsibility on the school to link their students, research and the community. Dr. Nelsen stated, "We have a responsibility to give back to the Valley and if we are going to be successful in the Valley. If we are going to brake the grips of poverty we have to be engaged directly with the colonias, with the local organizations and local politicians."
The university is reaching out and to make sure this engaged mindset sticks for years to come, they plan to review it annually by university administration.
