The blood supply in the Valley is at emergency levels because of the H1N1 scare.
Officials from United Blood Services say the level is low because several school districts are temporarily closed due to the threat of the H1N1 flu outbreak and so they had canceled their blood drives that were scheduled.
Now they are in dire need for blood and would like to have Valley residents donate blood to bring the blood levels higher. All three United Blood Service centers are open and Valle Vista Mall in Harlingen is also sponsoring an emergency blood drive. That event will happen on Friday from 11am to 6pm and on Saturday from 12 noon to 7pm. Every donor will receive a movie coupon as a Thank You gift for donating blood.
Blood donors must be at least 16 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. For more information please call 956.213.7500.
