"Trixie", a dog that can only walk on her two front legs, has a new home.
Trixie the Chihuahua's story is a remarkable one that tugged at heart strings across the country.
She's only able to walk on her two front legs; the other two are paralyzed from a previous injury.
Her new owner says she's a perfect match for the unique Chihuahua.
Grinning from ear to ear, Dr. Eleanor Cooke said she couldn't stop smiling Saturday.
"I've been waiting all week! I was so excited," she said.
The South Fort Myers, Florida veterinarian is getting to know her new precious pooch.
Trixie's story is not the typical tale.
She can only walk using her two front legs.
Doctors don't know how it happened, but say she injured her spinal cord long ago - paralyzing her hind legs.
Trixie spent the last three weeks in care of Lee County Domestic Animal Services after getting a call from Cape Coral Police that she had caused a traffic crash because she was distracting drivers.
"People wanted to donate wheel chairs and food. It's been just a huge outpour from the community," said Laura Reinmeyer, with Lee County DAS.
In all, 15 people from across the country wanted to bring her home, but Lee County DAS saw Dr. Cooke as the best match.
"I think I can really give the best of care, take care of her and any of her medical needs she needs; I can do a lot easier than a lot of people," Cooke said. "I'm glad to be able to give her a good home. She deserves it."
