McALLEN - An acclaimed writer and motivational speaker was at South Texas College on Monday evening as part of the school's celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Sandra Cisneros , best known for her book The House on Mango Street, spent the evening sharing her life experiences and reading excerpts from several of her books. Cisneros has written many books about the struggles of growing up a first generation citizen and is known worldwide as a key figure in Chicana literature. The school says it chose her because many of the students look up to the writer. This is the third annual Hispanic Heritage Month Literature Series, the celebration ends on the 15th of this month.
