Due to loving foods, I decided to become a chef at 14. In 1976, I joined the U.S. Navy in the food services where not only did I feed Americas finest, I cooked for Presidents, Royalty, and Government and Military top brass from around the world. After I retired from the service, I worked at our local area hospitals. Then in 2001, I came to STC where I made the Presidents honor roll and became a member of PTK Honor Society and received a degree in culinary arts in 2003. I went on to work again as a chef at Cornerstone Hospital and then on to Dietary Director at the Alfredo Gonzalez Veterans Nursing Home. I was invited to teach as an adjunct in culinary program at STC. I accepted and as the program grew, I took on more classes until in 2005 I became a full-time faculty member. I am a current member of the American Culinary Federation and the Texas Chefs Association. I received the NISOD Award for outstanding teaching in 2009 and I won the South Texas College Faculty of the Year in 2010.
