Tenants in one Massachusetts town woke up to a surprise early this morning.
Essex, Massachusetts police said someone played a prank inside an apartment building when they moved a farm animal into the building.
“We got a call for a goat in somebody’s apartment, and we do get some strange calls on the overnight, but this one kind of stood out right away,” said Essex Police Department Officer Tom Shamshak.
Tenants of the apartment building woke up at 4:30 a.m. to find a goat in their living room.
“Somebody would have had to open the downstairs door, taken the goat up three flights of stairs and then entered the apartment,” said Shamshak.
The residents were able to get the animal outside the building by the time police arrived.
“The tenant had actually brought the animal out of his apartment downstairs and was waiting in the parking lot for us,” said Shamshak.
The young goat, named Henry, came from Marshall’s Farm Stand in Gloucester.
Police don’t know how Henry got to Essex or into the apartment, but they said the main door to the building was left unlocked.
“At this point, we have no idea who brought the goat in,” said Shamshak.
Police don’t think this was meant to be a mean gesture, they believe the goat was taken from the farm stand and put into the apartment as a practical joke.
“It just seems like a prank. Some friends trying to play a joke on somebody,” said Shamshak.
Henry is fine. His kidnappers are still not known. Police are investigating the case.
