Harlingen police have a La Feria man behind bars after they say he tried running over an officer.
Joe Edwards Tapia is charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer and evading arrest. Just after 2am on Saturday morning police tried to pull him over on South P street. After pulling to the side of the road, officers say he took off again and hit a fence. Police chased him and Tapia stopped again a second time and when police approached the car Tapia took off again and nearly hit a officer. One officer shot his pistol missing Tapia and chased him again. Police were able to stop Tapia along business 83 and arrested him. His bond is set at $60,000 dollars.
