Plans to build a new boat ramp at the Hidalgo County Water Improvement District 3 pump station is underway and it was created in the name of safety.
Officials with the Water District say they created the proposal after several incidents along the Rio Grande river including on claim where employees of the district were shot at. The ramp will be built at the pump located off of 23rd street in Hidalgo just west of the Hidalgo International bridge. Border Patrol and local agencies will be the only people authorized to use the ramp. Once approved, officials expect the ramp to be completed before the New Year.
