It was around 10:30 p.m. on saturday night when neighbors gathered near the 2800 block of Kellie Dr. in Edinburg. According to police, Carlos Ochoa, 28, showed up to the party uninvited and carrying a loaded gun.. The homeowner apparently disarmed him and asked him to leave his residence immediately. One of Ochoa's friends who lives near by helped him get back to his house. That good deed, would be his last.
"They found the body of Alberto Trevino also of Edinburg who had been the same person who had escorted Ochoa home, says Sgt. Oscar Trevino. "It is highly suspected that alcohol played a big factor in the investigation/case."
Alberto Trevino had been shot in the back of the head. Police are still searching for a motive. Police say that when they arrived to the house a woman told them she had witnessed a murder.
They quickly arrested the man inside of the home but little did they know he was the son of the former Mayor of Edinburg.
Former Edinburg Mayor Joe Ochoa watched on as his son was charged with murder. Family members sat in silence, confusion and disbelief written all over their faces.
Carlos Ochoa was also charged with aggravated assault and unlawful restraint. A woman at the residence told Police she too almost lost her life.
Police say the incident is still under investigation and would not say if Ochoa had confessed to the murder.
His bond was set at $755,000.
