The state's First Lady, Anita Perry, visited the Valley to raise awareness about sexual assault as part of the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault program.
She attended a luncheon at the McAllen Country Club on Thursday and she has been involved with the organization for more than five years trying to prevent the crime. One in five women and one in twenty men in the state are victims of sexual assault and a recent study found that sexual assault services are greatly underfunded.
