Drivers may need to take a second look at speed limit signs on the highway after legislation increased the speed limits across the state.
Starting September 1st, TxDOT will be reviewing the 70 mph speed limit and determining whether or not it it should be raised to 75 mph. The 65 mph night time signs and truck speed limit signs will be permanently removed and state officials say every road in the state will be studied and the process will take up to a year. TxDOT Director of Transportation Jesus Leal says, "We have to go through and identify all the points and make sure legally we can do all these things. Lots of these things do take studies, we can't just do it over night."
TxDOT say they've asked DPS troopers to be lenient when it comes to citing tickets until all of the signs are replaced.
