RIO GRANDE CITY- A suspect and a police officer meet again, after a high speed chase, the suspect is now facing felony charges.
Police say the suspect is 19 year old Reymundo Gomez, a local guy. A couple of weeks ago he sent police on a chase that ended up at the river he tried to get away by swimming back into Mexico but couldn't make it and he started to drown. That's when border patrol agents and this particular police officer rescued him. To the police officer's surprise in this recent chase arrest it was the same suspect.
"He was pretty angry pretty upset at me I was arresting him again so he was pretty upset," said Officer Robert Trevino.
It was round two for officer Trevino, he had no idea who was driving this black SUV Tuesday when he tried to pull the driver over for a traffic violation on FM 755, which police say is a common road for drug trafficking. The suspect refused to stop and put the pedal to the metal and tried to get away. The driver crashed it's car near Sanchez street and took off running but eventually gives up.
"He stops and he looks at me and when I go to arrest him i see his face and i recognized him as being the guy i chased a few weeks ago into the river," said Trevino
Apparently Gomez had water in his lungs that day and police say he was taken to the hospital. About 400 pounds of marijuana was seized in that case. No official word on how Gomez was able to get away from authorities and hit the streets again.
"This time he's behind bars...you don't know what to expect everyday is something different," said Trevino.
no drugs were found in this recent chase, Gomez faces evading arrest charges and is expected to be arraigned.
