Two men have been arrested for stealing copper and now police will review other cases to see if they were involved in those crimes.
Michael Lee Spencer and Rudy Gutierrez are accused of being behind several copper thefts at a number of Harlingen C.I.S.D. schools between August 9th and 16th. Police believe the men gained access to the roofs and then cut and removed copper piping connected to the air conditioning systems. It's estimated that the damage to the schools had totaled $30,000 dollars. Both men are charged with five counts of theft and their bonds have been set at $68,000 dollars each.
