Wedding dress stolen just days before ceremony.
Robin Russell had just picked up her wedding dress and her flower girl's dress from being altered when she and her maid of honor decided to stop at a South Bend, Indiana craft store to pick up an item for the wedding.
"We came to get the last minute bubble fillers for the flowers," said Russell. "We drove here, went into the store for maybe 15 or 20 minutes and came back out, loaded up the stuff and went home."
The two didn't realize the dresses were missing at first because they were in the backseat of a minivan.
"We grab the bags from Michael's and go in the house and I said 'Oh I need to go back out and get my dress' and then I thought the dress wasn't in there and I just thought there's no way, there's no way and I went out there and it was gone," said Russell.
Russell then returned to the store to meet with police, but the dresses weren't immediately recovered.
"It's just awful, it's just sick. I can't believe that someone would do that. Being a bride is the most special day and the dress is so special and for someone to just take that from me it just really breaks my heart. I can't believe someone is that sick or mean," said Russell.
Determined not to let the theft ruin her wedding, Russell began searching for a new dress.
"All I kept telling myself was there's no way I’m going to find another dress that was just as pretty as that one and David's Bridal had to order it for me, so I thought I’m not going to have it back in time," said Russell.
Fortunately a local David's Bridal had a dress in Russell's size in stock.
After dipping deep into her savings to pay $1,200 for the two dresses, Russell will have her dress in time for her wedding this Saturday.
"We have paid for everything. This is not in our budget, we're making it happen, but it’s just not fair," said Russell. "Whoever stole this obviously has no heart."
Russell said police were looking at surveillance cameras to see if the theft was captured on tape.
She also said the minivan automatically locks and had to be unlocked when they returned from Michael's, so they aren't sure how the thief got into the van.
