Big black smoke could be seen miles from away in San Benito as a huge fire started started off Barlow road around 5:30 Monday. As you get closer you hear and see the intensity of the flames. Fire departments from Harlingen, Brownsville, Los Fresnos, and San Benito fighting the flames.
Cameron county officials say quite a bit of tires are burning making this fire very toxic.
"This is chemicals, therefore this plume is dangerous."
One house has completely burned as the flames continue.
Officials are also worried about several cars and others homes in the area.
Armando Cardenas's home is not to far from the home this burned down. He was not home when the fire started and got a call from officials saying there was a massive fire near his home.
"I am worried about the whole house basically."
For now him and his family can just look on.
"They said they are protecting my house, so not letting the fire go up there."
At this time no was has been injured except for one fire fighter who suffered from smoke inhalation.
The Cameron County Emergency Coordinator says this fire will take a long to put out.
"Anything from a day to three day to 4 days."
Homes were the fire is directly hitting residents were notify well before the fire got large to large and dangerous.
No evacuations have been ordered for other nearby homes. County officials say an investigation will done in conjunction with Texas Commision of Environment Quaility to determine what the exact cause of the fire.
