It was Denim Day, a day to raise awareness on the dangers of sexual assault.
On Wednesday night, the Friendship of Women Organization held an event at the University of Texas in Brownsville. All the pair of jeans symbolize a sexual assault case, which happened in Italy in the early 90's. Organizers say, a woman was raped and the judge believed the woman's jeans were too tight so she must have helped the rapist by taking her jeans off.
This angered women world wide and so they started Denim Day to bring attention the perception of sexual assault. Prevention Specialist, Claudia Cerda says, in Brownsville this year only, 90 victims of sexual assault have come forward, so it's time for women to know where they can turn to for help. She says, they decided to hold this event on UTB's campus because college students are at high risk for sexual assault.
