Windy weather made it an exciting day for biologists at Sea Turtle Inc. on South Padre Island where they found hundreds of Kemps Ridley sea turtle eggs up against beach side hotels and condos.
They discovered three nests, one near the Sheraton Hotel, where they found 89 sea turtle eggs buried in the sand. At the Isla Grand Hotel, volunteers picked up 103 eggs, and outside Las Ventanas condos, they rescued a nest with 106 eggs.
Sea Turtle Inc. workers say, Thursday weather made it perfect for finding these ping-pong ball sized eggs. Out of these nearly 300 eggs, Sea Turtle Inc. expects 86% of them to hatch in about 50 days.
