HIDALGO CO.- The man who killed another man in north Elsa early Tuesday has been formally charged this morning.
Troy Thorp, 68, was charged with first degree murder. Sheriff deputies say he was found on the scene of the crime that happened at a ranch off Monte Cristo road just east of FM 88. Thorp told the judge that he's innocent and says he was trying to protect the property. The victim was pronounced dead on Tuesday.
" He was shot five times to the body," said Homer Jasso, Justice of The Peace.
The shooting marks Hidalgo county's 11th homicide and the name of the victim has not been released. Thorp's bond was set at one million dollars.
