Several candidates met stringent requirements and went through rigorous training and now with raised their hands and repeated the oath of office as they were sworn in as reserve sheriff deputies.
The graduation ceremonies took place on Thursday evening in Mission for the Hidalgo County Sheriffs office. Hidalgo Sheriff Lupe Trevino says the graduates will be obligated to come to the assistance whenever they are needed. The deputies will not be paid, but whenever the county commissioners approve the hire of additional deputies the graduates will be the first ones to fill those positions because they have been trained. Sheriff Trevino says there's currently four positions open in the department that will be filled and that all past graduates have been hired as full time deputies.
