Today marks the first day Brownsville International Airport will be providing non-stop flights from Brownsville to Monterrey, Mexico. Airport Director Larry Brown helped celebrate this new flight service with food and entertainment for all passengers apart of the inaugural flight.
“It’s a joint effort between AeroMexico and us to help bridge the gap,” says Brown. “As soon as they put the flights on the Internet the sets started filling up fast.”
The current flights available from Brownsville to Monterrey are a part of a trial run that will continue until mid August, but Brown believes the flights may eventually become permanent.
“We have service right now with charter planes that has been growing substantially,” says Brown. “The airport obviously generates revenue associated with movement of people, but it is also generating business opportunities for people throughout the Rio Grande Valley.”
