Police find rocket launcher in Massachusetts man's home.
Police in Auburn, Massachusetts have discovered a rocket launcher inside a home while serving an unrelated search warrant.
“It’s an antitank weapon that fires a rocket. This is a Vietnam war era weapon,” said Sgt. Jeffrey Lourie of the Auburn Police Department.
Police were searching the home after the 38-year-old man who lives there allegedly attacked his girlfriend’s 18-year-old son.
The victim showed up Sunday night at the Auburn police station bleeding.
“During that altercation he alleged he was strangled and then stabbed with a sword in the hand. It was a minor would to the hand. It was treated by EMTs. It didn’t require further medical attention,” said Lourie.
Police are not sure if the rocket launcher works, but the shocking find is very unnerving for officers.
“They were taken aback to find that in a residence,” said Lourie.
Neighbors are standing behind the suspect.
“He’s not the type at all. He’s not violent. He’s actually really sweet so it’s kind of weird,” said Casey Sclam, a neighbor. “I can’t imagine him being mean to a fly. I’m going to be on his side all the way, man.”
The suspect was arraigned on Monday including charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
Police are unsure if it’s a crime to possess a rocket launcher.
They have contacted the ATF and depending on what they say, he could face additional charges.
