In Weslaco, local and state officials promise residents and business owners no more phone service interruptions.
This after, a backup fiber optic line was installed to help phone service in the city from being interrupted. Local officials say in the last two years, phone service int he area has gone out nine times after construction workers accidentally cut the single fiber optic line along the expressway. When that happens, landlines and cell phone services are affected including blocking residents from dialing 911.
State and local officials partnered with two major phone companies to make the project possible.
