Two brothers are dead after crashing into a concrete wall early Sunday morning.
The driver who took off, after the accident, is now behind bars, Michelle Macias reports on the latest from the McAllen newsroom. The driver involved in the fatal accident turned himself into Alton police on Monday afternoon and was charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter and one count of intoxication assault. The accident on Mile 6 north and Los Ebanos in Alton left two brothers dead at the scene. Alton police along with the Department of Public Safety went back out on Monday to investigate Alton's first fatal accident of the year.
Rafael Rey's front yard is covered with glass and car parts after the car crashed nearby. He says he got scared after hearing sounds from the accident and when he went outside he saw the men lying on the ground and police surrounding the scene. The brothers, 18 year-old Victor Manuel Gaytan and 24 year-old Felipe de Jesus Gaytan died at the scene and another passenger broke his leg and was air lifted to a local hospital.
Investigators say it looks like two factors played a big role in the accident. Speed and alcohol, something that Alton Police Chief Baldemar Flores says they're cracking down on. The driver, 23 year-old Luciano Vallejo was transported to the Hidalgo county jail and has a $55,000 dollar bond.
