MISSION- A Reynosa teen has been formally charged accused of assisting to smuggle more than four hundred pounds of weed.
Juan Carlos Espinoza, 18, was charged with evading arrest on foot and possession of marijuana. Mission Police said he was one of three suspects fleeing from police, after they got a tip saying that a suspicious truck was exiting Butterfly Park Tuesday morning.
Police tried to stop the truck, but a chase began. Police said the truck eventually made it back to the river, and three suspected smugglers got out and dove into the river.
According to police, Espinoza swam halfway but couldn't cross over. He was eventually was picked up by Border Patrol's Marine Unit.
Espinoza's bail is at $155,000 dollars and is expected to be deported.
