A pursuit through the streets of Mission ended violently yesterday morning after authorities exchanged fire with two suspected smugglers. Police chased the vehicle for miles dodging several bundles of marijuana that were thrown out by the smugglers.
Police also dodged several bullets as the men made their way back to Mexico. They left behind over 900 lbs of marijuana in the truck.
This isn't the first time smugglers have used their expensive cargo to get away. Just a few months ago dashboard video captured a smuggler throwing bundles at authorities in La Joya.
Police say this is not a new tactic. In this chase the strategy didn't work. So the smugglers went to plan B.
That decoy was 19 year old Jenny Eloisa Gonzales from Mission. She was charged earlier today with Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon. Police say they are still investigating the incident and hope to find the other suspects who swam their way back to Mexico.
