It's the time of year to get them while its hot but since its been SO hot, the Hidalgo County Fire Marshal's Office is putting restrictions on fireworks. It is a restriction on the types of fireworks that are sold. Also it's restricting the amount of days that fireworks will be allowed to be sold.
Vendors will not be allowed to sell bottle rockets or missles with fins.
Upper valley residents will only have days to purchase fireworks instead of weeks.
Fire officials say its all in the name of safety.
Restricting the sale of fireworks may cost vendors thousands of dollars this July fourth holiday. It was a surprise to find that the biggest vendor in the upper valley actually supports the ordinance.
Mr. G's fireworks has several locations across the upper valley. They say they were the ones who suggested the ordinance to fire officials. Even though the suggestion may backfire on Mr.G's, they tell us they aren't worried. They want everyone to have fun but to also be safe.
Firework stands will open its doors on June 30th.
Fire officials tell us violations of the ordinance will result in fines of up to $500.
