The Sea Joker caught on fire while in the dock of the shrimp basin.
The Port of Brownsville police and fire trucks from the Brownsville Fire Department blocked a street in the shrimp basin while fire fighters worked to put out a shrimp boat fire.
"Just walked on the boat when the fire started."
The owner of the Sea Joker says the fire started in the engine room around noon.
"We were welding on the tanks and the sparks went through the gap and everything got built up."
Workers were working on the boat because shrimp season is just a month away. Fire fighters say the location of the fire made it hard for them to put out.
"There is two openings to the boat one in the front and one that's in between the bedrooms it's hard to get down there because it's hot all the smoke has to come out of one of those holes so its pretty challenging for the guys."
No one on the boat was injured.
The brownsville fire captain says the fire was contained just after 1pm and fire fighters continued to put out hot spots throughout the day.
