Woman accused of attempting to sell unborn twins on Craigslist.
Police in Wichita, Kansas are concerned after a Craigslist post seeking to hand over children not wanted by a mother.
The surprising ad suggests and unthinkable motive: to give up unborn twins.
The ad reads, “Sorry if anyone is made I posted here, but I’m in a spot. I’m 37 weeks pregnant and stuck in Kansas.”
The woman goes on to tell a story about coming to Kansas to meet a family who was interested in adopting her twin babies.
The post goes on to say, “I really don’t like these people. I want to go back to Texas, but have no way. I also have two small kids here with me. Please, I’m looking for a family who will adopt the babies and help me after to get back to Texas.”
“Our main goal is to find out the facts of what is going on and to determine if there's any criminal charges,” said Lt. Jeff Weible with the Exploited and Missing Child Unit.
The post has since been removed, but police are working to track down the source.
While the ad does not ask for money, a Lawrence Craigslist ad did.
Police investigated there and found it to be a hoax. Wichita authorities won’t say if they have any leads in the latest case.
“Any report of any type that we get at EMCU we investigate thoroughly,” said Lt. Weible. “We have a report in reference what you're talking about and it's under investigation.”
It’s a shocking ad in an Internet world that’s tough to separate fact from fiction.
Police are asking anyone who may have responded to the ad or had contact with the woman to call 911.
