An upper Valley high school teacher is the winner of the H.E.B. Excellence in Education Award.
Rachelle Grace of McAllen Memorial high school won the award over the weekend in Austin, Texas and she was surprised with balloons and a cake by students and staff at the school. The award honors teachers with 10 to 20 years in the classroom and Mrs. Grace has been teaching for 16 years. She thanked her students because she says they inspire her to continue teaching and making an impact in their lives.
Along with the award, she also received a $10,000 dollar check plus McAllen Memorial received the same amount from the H.E.B. company. Mrs. Grace says she plans to pay off her student loans with the money and possibly get her Masters degree.
