City leaders in Rio Hondo are ready to move forward in finding the city a new Fire and Police Chief.
Commissioners met on Thursday night to officially announce that the position of fire and police chief is open to qualified applicants. They discussed whether or not to advertise the position or fill it from within, but currently, it's a dual position and so they talked about possibly separating the two jobs.
In the meantime, Henry Pena and Eric Verdeber are acting as Assistant Fire Chiefs and the acting Police Chief of Sgt. Charles Lopez. Weeks ago, this position became vacant after city officials fired former chief, Sam Martinez for not telling them he had a second job.
