Early voting is off to a strong start in Cameron county as the county elections office reports that within the first hour of the polls being open there were already 150 early votes.
Cameron County Elections Administrator Roger Ortiz says the numbers are usually strong on the first day of early voting and then slow down until the last week of voting. Ortiz is anticipating a very good turnout for elections with heated races including the mayor race with five candidates vying for the position in Brownsville. Ortiz reminds people to be prepared when heading to the polls with their voter registration card to vote. There are four polling sites including the main elections officer at the Cameron County Courthouse and the public library. Early voting is also in Los Fresnos, Rio Hondo and in the Laguna Madre Water District.
